Holistic Healthcare: Terminology You Should Know

New To Alternative or Holistic Health Treatment? Here Are The Terms You Need to Know

You have probably heard these terms before, but you may not be clear about what they mean. There is some confusion around the difference between natural, holistic, and alternative. Each of these terms have their own uses.

In this article we will break down the main terminology around natural healthcare terms so you can properly understand and use them going forward.

What Is Natural Health Care?

Natural health care can also be referred to as natural healing. It is the general term for healing techniques that are derived from natural remedies and self-care.

Treatments such as reflexology, AcuDetox, and acupressure use natural points in your body to help diagnose as well as treat your body. Through natural therapies, we are able to determine what is going on in your body and then we can plan a natural treatment that is best suited to you.

A lot of the time, natural health care practices can be taught to you as the client so that you can go home and treat yourself in a natural way moving forward.

Another term that you need to know is alternative health care.

What Is Alternative Health Care?

Alternative health care is also known as alternative medicine. This can be defined as any practice that aims to achieve the healing effects of medication but are not typically used in Western Medicine practices.

Alternative health care practitioners want to find the source of your symptoms, and not just look at the symptoms that you are presenting at the moment. Once they have figured out the source of the problem, they will treat the source and not just your symptoms.

Last but not least, let’s take a look at what Holistic health care is.

What Is Holistic Health Care?

Holistic health care is when you treat the body as a whole. This means that you treat the mind, body, and soul.

Our bodies work in mysterious ways. Sometimes, our body tends to show physical symptoms for an emotional problem that we are battling with internally. When you treat yourself using holistic health care practices, you will learn how to determine if the symptoms are a physical problem or if its an emotional problem that is manifesting into a physical symptom.

For example, you had a bad couple of days at work and you were not able to speak your mind. One day, you wake up with a sore throat and you think that you are getting a common cold. If you treat yourself with a holistic approach, you and your practitioner will be able to determine if it is in fact just a common cold or if you are showing physical symptoms for an internal emotional issue you are dealing with.

The main points that you should remember when it comes to understanding the differences between natural, holistic and alternative health care are:

  • Each one has its own purpose
  • Each one has its own techniques and practices
  • Each one can help heal your body in a natural way
